On July 4th 1996 Dr. Tim Heaton, a paleontologist from the University of South Dakota, excavating in a cave on Prince of Wales Island, in Southeast Alaska found 9200 year old human skeletal remains. These are the oldest human remains yet found in Alaska and are some of the oldest remains found in North America.
